CORRECT POSTURE IS THE PILLAR OF HEALTH, VITALITY AND ATTRACTIVENESS

Blog

Proper body posture is extremely important for our well-being, health, and also the flow of energy through the body. The spine is of crucial importance here.
Optimal posture keeps the body in the balance of the natural curve of the spine, or the double-S position. This allows for relief in the lumbar and cervical areas and normal pressure on the structures of the spine, muscles, and ligaments.

A healthy and optimal posture enables the optimal flow of vital life energy.

Along the spine run three main energy channels or nadis, called sushumna, ida, and pingala. Where these channels intersect, the seven main chakras or energy vortices are located, which direct the energy. Otherwise, our subtle body has a complex network of more than 72,000 nadis or energy channels and also energy vortices. However, these three main nadis running along the spine determine the primary energy flows, and their condition has a significant impact on our well-being and health status.

If you want to establish an optimal flow of energy in the body and prevent it from stagnating, I urge you to take care of your posture and thus your spine! Yoga can immensely help you with this.
It is not just about a static setup, as posture dynamically changes in our daily lives. Effective posture in everyday life is a combination of healthy connective tissue and durable, strong muscles, which are achieved through exercises, awareness, functional movement… Posture also greatly affects our way of breathing. A holistic approach is important, which is exactly what an experienced yoga teacher can give you.

What does proper posture have to do with self-confidence and attractiveness?

Everything! A person already “tells” through their posture that they feel good in their body. A flexible, aligned spine and upright posture reflect healthy self-confidence, optimism, and elegance. They signal that we do not bend to the opinions of others, but also that we are not too rigid in our beliefs, and that we proudly carry everything given to us, walking through life with trust and openness. The flow of energy enabled by proper posture is also felt on the outside.
We influence how we feel with our posture. And vice versa. How we feel is reflected in our posture. So just by aligning your spine, you affect your mood, energy, and potential for attractiveness.

What kind of posture does your lifestyle encourage?

In more than 13 years of regular yoga teaching and working with people in this field, I can tell you that generally, the posture of people who come to me at the beginning is, to say the least, worrying. And not only that. I can generalize this to the entire population of us “modern folk”. I like to observe people, which is partly a professional hazard. Many times I just stop somewhere outside and study the movement of people walking past, and with that, their posture. Bodies tell me stories and tell me a lot about their lifestyle, the person’s condition, inner attitude, the emotions that permeate them, the burdens they carry, and their mood. But if I focus on posture, I can conclude that for most people, it is far from optimal.
For many, the modern lifestyle means spending most of the day sitting. Whether it’s in front of a computer, looking at a phone, over books, while driving a car, when eating, when meeting friends for dinner… A sedentary lifestyle greatly affects our health and our posture.
You are probably reading this in a sitting position too. Maybe standing, with a phone in your hand?
How is your posture right now? Check it!
In what position is your spine? Your neck?

Guidelines for proper body posture in a sitting position

For all of you who sit a lot, I have prepared instructions for proper body posture.
To ensure proper posture while sitting, first adjust the height of your seat (or get a chair if yours is not adjustable) so that your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle (right angle), meaning at hip height or slightly lower. Both feet should be placed completely flat on the floor. Women, take note! With our elegant habit of crossing our legs, we create heavy loads on the pelvis and the lower part of the spine.

Sit on your sit bones, with your weight evenly distributed on both sides. Do not lean against the backrest of the chair; the torso should be upright, meaning we are neither leaning forward nor backward. Align yourself so that you get the feeling of a long spine, “lengthening” it all the way from the tailbone to the neck. Straighten your head so that your neck becomes an extension of the spine. Push your shoulders back and shoulder blades down, shoulders away from your ears. If you are at a desk, your hands should be resting on it, and your elbows should be at a 90-degree angle.

Proper posture must be constantly conscious, both when we are in static positions and during dynamic movement, and especially in the beginning when the muscles are neither strong enough nor used to the correct position. If we want to ensure an optimal flow of energy in the body, posture awareness is not the only thing we need to think about. Breathing also plays an important role.
The effort pays off, as proper posture is a prerequisite for health and well-being. The encouraging news is also that with regular yoga practice, anyone can correct their posture, regardless of condition, age, and lifestyle.
How gratefully our wonderful bodies obey us if we invest something in them!
I urge you to remind yourself of your posture as many times a day as possible and align it. Get up often and stretch. Become aware of how you carry yourself and how it affects you.
Ancient Taoist wisdom says:

“You are as old as your spine.”

Take care of its youth.
